What a great experience with ICICI Bank.
I decided to open a NRI Account with ICICI as I heard and believed that it is a great bank with great service.
So I opened an account with them 4 years ago. About a year back I got a letter from them that in the Mumbai Floods in 2005 all my personal documentation ( the photocopies of my passport etc..) have been lost.
Therefore they asked me to provide them the proof of my identity and asked me to go to the Indian Embassy and get the documents verified and then send them to India.
I did not take any action as I thought that if the bank can not take care of my documents then how can I trust them to take care of my money.
A few days ago I got a letter saying that my account has been closed and I should not issue any cheques and I should destroy the chequebook and the ATM card. There was no mention as to what is my total balance and how can I get it back.
I am sure there will be many people out there with similar experience as Mumbai Floods were big one and would have washed a lot of documents ....... :-)
I have learnt my lesson - don't rely on one bank and put the money in 2 or 3 banks and if one bank does not perform upto the mark then transfer the money to some other account.
